From Near Not Far: A Case Study on Regional Textile Production
A project which explores the value of hyperlocalism and craft through cultivating wearables from local natural fibres including raw Danish wool, Nordic wool yarn and reclaimed European linen. Drawing inspiration from Denmark's rich heritage, folk traditions, and age-old craft techniques like handspinning, handweaving, natural dyeing, and felting, each piece tells a story rooted in a modern regional fiber system. The artistic prototypes were entirely hand-crafted in a timespan of five months.
From Near, Not Far was commissioned by Statens Kunstfund & Det Vilde Spinderi, and has been exhibited at Pakhuset Nykøbing (Denmark, 2021) and The Nehru Centre (London, 2023). From Near, Not Far is a collaboration with designer Marianne Noer. An accompanied paper authored by Ashna Patel and Marianne Noer entitled From Near, Not Far: A Case Study on Regional Textile Production is due to be published in The Design School in Sustainable Transitions published by Lab for Sustainability and Design at Design School Kolding.
